Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee Review

One of the famous curry mee stall in Penang is located along Lorong Seratus Tahun, The stall name is named after the street name as Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee (百年路加哩面) or in English, it is called One Hundred Year Road Curry Noodle. Does this stall have more than 100 years of history?

Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee Stall

This restaurant only sells one item, i.e. curry noodle or what we call it curry mee in Penang. If you are not local, you may not able to find this restaurant as it does not have clear restaurant name or sign board. Below is the panorama view from opposite of the restaurant.

Do you know which building sell curry noodle?  A business without a clear sign board is designed to fail but this is not valid for food business. Customer will find the restaurant that they want even though it is located inside the jungle. Here is the front view of the Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee restaurant.

Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee Environment

The stall in located at the double storey corner unit along intersection of  Lorong Seratus Tahun and Lebuh Naning. Yes, the road is actually called “Lorong Seratus Tahun”. I have no idea why such kind of name is being called, but it is funny.

The stall is actually located on the ground floor of Khuan Pin Hotel (环滨旅社). The dining environment is well kept to its original condition where you can enjoy the 60th pre-war feeling. Plastic table and chair is being placed within the Khuan Pin Hotel for dining purpose.

Does the curry mee taste good?

The starting price for curry mee is selling at RM4 per bowl. For the big size version, the selling price is RM4.60. If you plan to add extra item like additional shrimp, it will cost you RM7.50 per bowl. The price point is on the high side when comparing to the other curry mee competition like Ah Hong, Ho Chiak and Ms. Ooi Curry mee which taste better. But, this is based on my personal taste bud opinion; you may try it and let me know.

There are 3 main ingredients for the curry mee, first is the cuttle fish, tofu balls and pork blood cube. Pork blood cube (lower right corner on above picture) may be a new and challenging topping for visitor and you may request not to include it during the order.

I have ordered the big bowl of curry mee, here is how the actual picture of the noodle.

Since I don’t take the pork blood cube and the cuttle fish, I have requested the owner to put the tofu balls only. Upon the dish arrive; you will need to add in the curry paste as shown in below picture to your noodle’s soup.

Lorong Seratus Tahun Curry Mee Stall curry paste

This is a special made curry paste and it is special made by each individual stall owner. The more you add it, the spicier the curry noodle it is. Beside spicy, it will get oily as well. You should try out a small portion, mix it with the noodle and taste it before you add more of the paste.

Will I come again?

May be. It is one of the famous curry mee stall in Penang.
