Tai Buan Porridge Review

Tai Buan Porridge Review, 3.7 out of 5 based on 1 rating

Every time that I am fallen in sick, I will always look for porridge for lunch. You may not need to get into sick before you hunt for porridge! This is only valid for me! Today I am going to introduce you a porridge stall called Tai Buan Porridge (大满粥) located in Jalan Muntri.

Do you able to locate the Tai Buan Porridge stall in above picture? Well, sincerely speaking, I can’t find it in the picture above. There are no clear sign board that talking about a porridge stall.

Tai Buan Porridge

Tai Buan Porridge is actually located in the middle of a shop lot where my red arrow pointed to. It only has a tinny tiny sign board that talk about the stall name. If you are not local, I am pretty sure that you won’t found this stall even thought you drive thru Jalan Muntri daily.  It is actually located directly opposite to Soul Kitchen; if you know where is Soul Kitchen, then you should not have any problem locating the  stall. Tai Buan Porridge environment

The best way to get to Tai Buan Porridge is by walking as there is limited car park in front of the restaurant. I would recommend that you park at the private car park around Penang road and walk to the restaurant.

Tai Buan Porridge stall

Upon you entering the restaurant, you will found the Tai Buan porridge stall located on the left hand side of the commercial lot as shown above.

Tai Buan Porridge stall ingredient

All the selection is properly display on top of the stall cart. What you need to do is to make the order and look for a place to seat.

Tai Buan Porridge dining area

The dining area and the stall are surprisingly clean. I don’t even see a single fly around the dining area even thought the braised duck and bean curd is place in the open air condition on top of the cart. There is no air conditioned environment, and you will need to sweat and eat. Luckily, the roof of the restaurant is high and the air circulation is perfect; you may not sweat even thought there is no air conditional.

Does Tai Buan Porridge taste good?

I and my colleague paid a visit to Tai Buan porridge and we have order 5 separate dishes to try out. Here is how the dishes look like.

Tai Buan Porridge dishes

it consist of braised duck meat, braised bean curd, fried egg with dried turnip, braised pork and preserved salted vegetable on the center.

Tai Buan Porridge and dishes

With all the great dishes, it must accompany with a bowl of plain porridge. I personally likes all these dishes as it has original Penang taste and feel. You do feel that you are going back to future and living in 1960’s. The braised bean curd, pork and the duck meat, all of them are having similar taste that comes with strong smell of duck. My hypothesis to this is; all of them are being cooked in the same wok.

If you do not like the original braised duck meat taste, you may not suitable to dine at Tai Buan Porridge as the choice of the dishes is limited.

Tai Buan Porridge with egg

If you enjoy the food, I would like tell you that; one bowl of porridge is just not sufficient to fill up your stomach full. You may need to consume around 2-3 bowls in order to completely consume all the 5 dishes.

Will I come again?

Yes, I will.
