Favourite Cafe Review

It is Sunday again! I and my wife have set for another round of food hunting in downtown Penang. We have arrived in Favourite Cafe in Beach Street using my motorcycle.  Here is how the front views of the Favourite cafe.

Wide angle view of Favourite cafe

From the above picture, Favourite cafe is located in the middle of a row of commercial building and most of the shop is closed in Sunday afternoon.  Well, there must have a prawn behind the rock that help the cafe to continue to survive till now. Favourite cafe is strategically located near to the heritage wall art area, and this does attract lot of walk in customer or visitor.

Favourite cafe environment

Upon you walk into the Favourite Cafe, you will definitely found out that it has strong old Penang feel due to it decoration and it building construction. The ceiling of the main living hall is high and it comes with some old ceiling fan that helps to circulate the air within the cafe.

The living hall is narrow but long. The lighting is kind of dim and the dining setting is kind of 1960’s. Most of the table setting is made of wood and it does feel like that you are having a coffee in your own living hall.

Does Favourite Cafe’s Coffee taste good?

Upon you enter the cafe; you will need to go to the counter to make the order. Food will be served within minutes. The food selection is kind of limited. You will need to choose the cake that located in the fridge or order the pasta from the menu. The food selection is really limited, there are no finger food like fries, nugget or fried fish fillet (likes what Pik Nik has) in the menu. You can only order cake, wrap, soup or pasta.

The price of the cake is kind of expensive with an average price of RM11.90.  Direct competitive like Coffee Bean, the cake price is only RM9.50 per pc.  You can get further discount of 15% if you are using Citibank Clear credit card.

In the afternoon trip, we have only ordered a cappuccino only. The main purpose of the trip is to enjoy a quiet environment and the coffee.

The cappuccino cost me RM 7.90 and the taste is acceptable. Aside to the coffee, Favourite cafe has lots of selection in drink likes smoothies, juices, tea, beers, ice blended and chocolate drinks. It actually consist > 70% of its menu selection.

Will I come again?

Yes, great place for a coffee and for small group gathering.
